About the event

What ragtime fan doesn’t know The Sting? Released 50 years ago, on December 25, 1973, the film stars Robert Redford and Paul Newman as two grifters who team up to pull off the ultimate con — all to a musical score prominently featuring the works of Scott Joplin.

At the 1974 Academy Awards, The Sting was nominated for ten Oscars and won seven, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Scoring. Besides being a delightfully entertaining film in its own right, The Stingintroduced Scott Joplin’s music to millions of movie-goers and helped launch the 1970s ragtime revival while giving special impetus to the first Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival.
